Low Sea Roar

Unsigned local band, Low Sea Roar falls under the shoegaze category of music.
Adam Hain. Andrea Caturegli, Brandon Thomas, and Jake Hosek come together to create a refreshing sound. This is the type of music I picture myself blasting in my car on a sunny day with my sunroof open and windows down. I first heard about this band from Adam himself who does bass, Hammond, synths, and vox. Like myself Adam is also a broadcasting student at San Francisco State studying focusing in audio production, and it shows. The quality of the Low Sea Roar’s music has earned them a spot at South By South West this March in Austin, Texas. SXSW is a huge festival that hosts hundreds of bands from around the world, playing on one of their 50 stages. If you are like me and are not able to go all the way to Texas to catch this band play they will be having an April 3rd show here in San Francisco at Annie’s Social Club.
Their Myspace profile features three of the songs off of their self-titled ep.

I'm kind of new to the area and I wasn't even aware that there was so many indie bands in the bay area.Technicallly I'm more of a hip hop head than rock and roll boy but It is cool to find out about different things thats goin on around my area. Interview with The Ian Fays!

"We came up with the name when Sara and I were awkward 16 teen year olds in Junior College. Ian Fay was the most gorgeous guy in our home town (Santa Maria). Lena Fay (our older sister) actually hung out with him a few times, and we where always excited to here about Ian, about his different colored converse and what bands he liked. I guess he was a Junior College crush. Now he knows about the band (yes, that was very embarrassing) and helps us book shows whenever we play in Goleta or Santa Maria." -Lizz Fay

When was your last show?
"The Great American Music Hall on Feb 21st with Maldroid from Oakland. Of course the show was fun, but the coolest part was they fed you cafeteria-style dinner, way Euro…"

When is your next show?
"Our next show is actually our CD release show! It’s at Bottom of the Hill on April 17th at 9pm with Here Here and The Catholic Comb. We are going to decorate the whole venue with the new albums colors (gold, green, white), stream balloons everywhere and all the bands are going to dress Catholic school girls/boys. We might even get some kind of Fay drink special--that might be wishful thinking…it will be green…"

What was your favorite show you have played?
"We played in Brussels, Belgium last year and opened up for CSS. At the time we didn’t know who they were. After they played, we got who they were. They are incredible."

Best memory as a band?
"Probably when we played in Bologna, Italy last year. We opened up for the Babyshambles and it was so terrifying and horribly nerve-racking (we almost got sick back-stage) that it felt amazing after it was over. It felt like being 16 and passing your driver’s license test..."

Biggest musical influence?
"Paula Abdul and The Misfits."

Dream show line-up?
"Paula Abdul (opener), The Misfits (support), The Ian Fays (head-liner)"

How long have you played together as a band?
"5 years."

Favorite SF venue to play at?
"This is a hard question, S.F. has so many awesome venues. The Hemlock will always have nostalgic value (great lemon drops, first Bay Area show we ever played), The Rickshaw stop (aka Waldo) has amazing sound, The Great American was so surreal and gorgeous, and The Mezzanine had amazing lights."

Favorite venue of all time?
"The Covo Club in Bologna, Italy and The Alibi in Arcata, Ca. Our best friends live in these towns so the party tends to never end after playing these venues."

One thing you will never go on tour without?
"Straight iron (girls). Socks (Bradley)."

Favorite song you guys have written is?
"Probably "Electricity and Glass." It’s the secret track on our new album, we recorded it in 15 minutes in our Dad’s basement in Post Falls, Idaho. Good times. My twin sister and I each wrote half of the song and then shoved them together. It's always fun doing that, it takes the pressure off writing the whole thing by yourself."

You are about to leave to go on tour where is the last place you stop to eat?
"We are not fools, Great Mexican food is hard to come by out there in the big world. There’s a whole-in-the wall taqueria in Daly City with the best Mexican food around. We still can’t pronounce the name so we refer to it as Our Lady of Guadalupe because of the mural on the wall."
